Program Requirements

As of April 1, 2015, all construction workers in the province of Ontario receiving fall safety training must attend a Working at Heights program that has been approved by the Ontario Ministry of Labour. A Working at Height training program contents specific information on fall safety topics related to the construction industry in the province of Ontario. The training includes both, but is not limited to:

• Hazard identification
• Rights and responsibilities related to working at height
• Ladder safety
• Legislative requirements for worker fall safety
• Fall safety warning methods and barriers
• Types and usage of personal protective equipment for fall protection

Restriction

Our Working at Height Certified Instructor Program is built as a turnkey training solution for educating construction workers. The Certified Instructor Program is designed to qualify individuals to teach the corresponding approved Fall Protection Group Working at Height program. The program is designed to the specific established MOL standard and as a Certified Instructor; you are expected to deliver the program as designed.

Instructor Qualification

Admission into the program is done through an application and screening process to ensure each candidate meets the specific requirements set forth by this training standard. Each participant must have prior knowledge and experience with working at heights, general occupational health & safety, and adult education prior to admission into the program. You must meet the following criteria to be considered for the program. If you have a specific question relating to your qualifications, please contact us to discuss your situation.

Technical Knowledge

Any potential instructor must possess the proper technical occupational health and safety knowledge and experience before being accepted into the Certified Instructor program. This must be demonstrated by meeting at minimum one of the following criteria:

1. Any professional occupational health and safety designation; or
2. Completion of at least 30 hours of occupational health and safety training within the last two years; or
3. Five years of current occupational health and safety experience; or
4. Post secondary education in occupational health and safety with a related degree, diploma, or certificate; or
5. Three years of continuous experience as member of a certified joint health and safety committee.

Adult Education Experience

Any potential instructor must possess adult education background experience. This experience will consist of one of the following:

1. In the last five (5) years, at least 100 hours of adult education delivery experience; or
2. A post secondary education issued degree, diploma, or certificate in principles of adult education; or
3. A professional training and development designation; or
4. Completion of an instructor training program based upon adult learning principles.

Insurance Coverage

Any potential instructor or the company they are employed by must possess a valid Commercial General Liability insurance policy. The required commercial general liability insurance must be reflective of the type of activities being carried out by the company.

Legislative Compliance

Any potential instructor must understand and comply with all relevant provincial workplace legislation. They would be responsible for the provision of a safe and fair classroom-learning environment. This would include, but is not limited to, the arrangement of proper protective equipment for all students, a classroom environment that can accommodate a learner with disabilities and the provision of first aid, if required.
